Adam Levine is in the friend zone. He loves the troubled girl and is constantly there for support, but she never returns his affections.
Returning to the themes of prostitution, this line suggests that though Adam and the girl are in love, they can’t be together because she ‘always belongs to someone else,’ aka the man who is paying for her company.
Every time Adam tries to leave the girl, he always ends up back at her door, hoping she’ll open to up to him, by either literally opening her door or letting him into her heart.
It also illustrates his dedication. Adam is willing to drive for miles to end up with this girl, and he wishes she would appreciate his effort.

Adam wants her to come to him when she’s in need of a friend. She can reach out to him in a small way (by tapping on his window) or approach him in a forward manner (knocking on his door). The continued use of door symbolism shows that Adam is always willing to open up to her. When her door is closed, it seems to suggest that there’s another man and she has no room for Adam. Adam will always be available for her, even if his door is closed, meaning that there is another woman. This line implies that she is Adam’s true love and all the other women are secondary. He will do anything to make her feel beautiful.
